New Delhi, 13th Oct: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday called for greater preparedness, strategic foresight and faster decision-making to address emerging national security challenges amid rapid changes in technology and modern warfare.
The President made the remarks as faculty members and course participants of the 66th National Defence College Course called on her at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Murmu said the security and technological landscape was evolving rapidly, creating complex challenges that required India to adapt to changing circumstances. She noted that modern warfare now extends beyond traditional battlefields to areas such as cybersecurity, space technology and biotechnology.
Emphasising the expanding scope of national security, the President said military strength alone was not sufficient. Close cooperation between scientific institutions and the armed forces was essential to translate innovation into practical defence solutions.
She also highlighted the importance of cost-effective technologies that complement advanced defence systems and help optimise available resources. In this context, she underlined the role of initiatives such as the Research, Development and Innovation Scheme in strengthening the connection between innovation and national security.
On the growing use of Artificial Intelligence, Murmu observed that the technology was increasingly influencing science, national security and economic activities. However, she stressed that decision-making should not be entrusted exclusively to AI, calling for a balanced approach to its use.
The President also highlighted economic resilience as an integral part of India’s national security framework. She said the Indian economy had demonstrated its ability to absorb disruptions caused by external factors while preserving the country’s strategic freedom of action.
Her address underscored the need for India to strengthen its defence preparedness through technological innovation, institutional cooperation, responsible use of emerging technologies and a resilient economy.
