Haridwar, 17th Aug: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday cautioned the Narendra Modi government over alleged irregularities in education and recruitment examinations, saying the ongoing student protests could intensify if the issues are not addressed promptly. He also warned that he might return to the streets in protest if corrective action is not taken.

Speaking to reporters at Patanjali Yogpeeth on the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, Ramdev alleged that students across the country were facing serious challenges, including a lack of teachers, inadequate infrastructure in schools and colleges, paper leaks and corruption in recruitment processes.

“There is chaos everywhere in the country. Children are complaining that there are no teachers in their schools. Basic facilities like electricity, water and toilets are missing. Cheating is rampant in some places, while question papers are being leaked in others,” he said.

Ramdev further alleged that corruption and money power were influencing selections in government jobs and claimed that recruitment processes in some cases were affected by caste and religious considerations.

Warning that public dissatisfaction could grow, he urged the government to resolve the alleged irregularities at the earliest.

“I don’t support anarchy and lawlessness under the garb of protests. But there is no denying that there are a lot of ghapla (scams) in the country. Kindly fix this problem, or else Baba Ramdev will have to protest again,” he said, recalling his anti-corruption movement at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan in 2011.

The yoga guru, however, appealed to students and young people to remain peaceful while raising their concerns. He said protests should be conducted within the framework of democracy and the Constitution and urged the youth to reject violence and lawlessness.

Ramdev also expressed concern over increasing social and political divisions in the country, condemning hostility based on caste, religion and community. He called upon citizens to strengthen national unity and work towards eliminating hatred and discord.

Stressing that Independence should reflect self-reliance, constitutional values and social harmony, Ramdev said the country’s youth must fight for their rights while also fulfilling their responsibilities as responsible citizens.
