New Delhi, 3rd July: Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Thursday said India’s transition to electric mobility must go beyond replacing conventional vehicles and focus on building a sustainable industrial ecosystem driven by green growth, resilient infrastructure, transparent governance and a circular economy.

Addressing ASSOCHAM’s National Conference on “Electric Mobility: Building India an Electric Mobility Hub for Viksit Bharat”, Yadav said the country’s EV transition should strengthen domestic manufacturing, generate green jobs and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The minister said the government has undertaken several reforms to simplify environmental clearances, digitise approvals through the PARIVESH portal and improve ease of doing business while maintaining environmental safeguards.

He stressed that India’s clean mobility journey must be supported by robust charging infrastructure, localisation of advanced manufacturing, secure critical mineral supply chains, battery recycling and efficient resource management.

Yadav said the country should move away from the traditional “take-make-dispose” model towards a circular economy based on reuse, recycling and sustainability.

Calling for greater collaboration, he urged industry, policymakers and research institutions to work together to build an innovation-led ecosystem that positions India as a global hub for sustainable manufacturing and electric mobility.

The conference brought together policymakers, industry leaders, automobile manufacturers and technology experts to discuss policy continuity, financing support, resilient battery supply chains and technological innovation to accelerate electric vehicle adoption in India.
