Manipur BJP MLA Seeks Time-bound NIA Probe into Child Deaths

Imphal, 15th April: A BJP MLA from Manipur has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure a time-bound probe by the National Investigation Agency into the killing of two children in a bomb attack earlier this month.

In a letter dated April 13, Rajkumar Imo Singh highlighted the need for swift justice and stronger action against terror outfits operating in the state.

The incident took place on April 7 in Tronglaobi village of Bishnupur district, around 50 km from Imphal, where a five-year-old boy and his five-month-old sister were killed while asleep in their home.

Imo Singh noted that while the NIA has taken over the case, a comprehensive crackdown is needed to restore public confidence and uphold the rule of law.

The MLA also raised concerns over the upcoming national census, stating that accurate data collection in Manipur would be difficult due to ongoing displacement caused by ethnic violence.

He suggested that the census be conducted only after internally displaced persons are rehabilitated and returned to their homes.

Highlighting demographic concerns, Singh urged the Centre to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC), identify illegal immigrants, and clean up electoral rolls.

He flagged reports of anomalies in voter lists and stressed the need to remove fake voters before any delimitation exercise.

Referring to earlier findings under former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the MLA said around 65,000 fake Aadhaar cards had been detected, calling it a serious threat to indigenous identity.

He emphasised that Aadhaar verification must precede any voter ID linkage exercise.

Imo Singh also sought constitutional protection for 40 assembly seats in the valley region, arguing it is necessary to prevent demographic imbalance and preserve the socio-cultural identity of indigenous communities.
