Nice (France), 15th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India is no longer merely a technology adopter but is rapidly emerging as a global technology provider, inviting investors, universities, research institutions and entrepreneurs from across the world to collaborate with India in shaping the future of innovation.

Addressing the inaugural session of Bharat Innovates 2026 alongside French President Emmanuel Macron in Nice, the Prime Minister said the India-France partnership is driven not only by shared interests but also by a shared vision for addressing global challenges through innovation and technology.

Describing the relationship between the two countries as one based on “connection and conviction”, Modi highlighted cooperation in areas ranging from renewable energy and artificial intelligence to security and sustainability.

The Prime Minister said Bharat Innovates is emerging as a bridge between Indian talent and European capital, creating opportunities for young innovators from India to connect with global expertise and investment.

Highlighting India’s startup revolution, Modi said the country’s youth are developing solutions not only for India but for humanity at large. He pointed to innovations in artificial intelligence, satellite technology, smart cities, advanced manufacturing, green hydrogen, electric mobility, battery technologies, defence and security.

“India innovates with scale and speed. India innovates for a sustainable future. India innovates for the whole world,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted that while around 100 to 125 startups were participating in the event, India today boasts a startup ecosystem of more than 200,000 ventures, making it the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem.

He said these startups are contributing significantly to both the Indian and global economy and are increasingly emerging from smaller cities and towns.

Modi emphasized that the current decade presents both challenges and opportunities, with technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnology, advanced materials and space technologies expected to shape the future of humanity.

He said India’s approach is centred on “Technology for Humanity” and stressed the importance of trusted, inclusive and human-centric innovation.

Referring to India’s digital transformation, the Prime Minister highlighted the success of Digital Public Infrastructure and reiterated the country’s vision of “AI for All”, aimed at ensuring that technological progress benefits every section of society.

He said innovation and inclusion are complementary and that the true value of innovation lies not merely in financial valuation but in its impact on people’s lives.

The Prime Minister also highlighted government initiatives to strengthen the innovation ecosystem, including Startup India, Atal Tinkering Labs, incubators, research institutions and programmes supporting women entrepreneurs and innovators.

He noted that reforms in sectors such as defence, space and nuclear energy have opened new opportunities for startups and private participation.

“Until a decade ago, the world viewed India as a technology adopter. Today, India is emerging as a technology provider,” Modi said.

Calling for deeper global collaboration, he invited investors, universities, research institutions and entrepreneurs to partner with India through joint research, co-development, shared manufacturing and long-term innovation partnerships.

“Come to India. Work together with us. Design in India. Develop in India. And create solutions for the world,” the Prime Minister said.
