Security Forces Launch Massive Search Operation After Insurgent Attack in Ukhrul

Guwahati, 6th July: Two personnel of the Assam Rifles were killed after insurgents ambushed their convoy in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Monday, triggering a major counter-operation by security forces.

The attack took place on National Highway 202, around eight kilometres from Ukhrul town, targeting a convoy of the 40 Assam Rifles. The soldiers killed in action were identified as Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Rifleman C.M. Singh.

Following the ambush, security forces launched extensive search and area domination operations, cordoning off the entire area. Local residents reported hearing heavy gunfire for several hours, indicating a prolonged exchange of fire between troops and the attackers.

Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam condemned the attack, describing it as an attempt to disrupt peace in the state. He expressed confidence that those responsible would be brought to justice and urged people to remain united in support of peace and security.

Security operations remain underway, while a forensic team is expected to visit the site as part of the investigation.
