Calls for 'Ganga-Mahakam Vision' to Deepen India-Indonesia Partnership

Jakarta, 7th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday became the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Parliament of Indonesia, calling for a new chapter in bilateral ties through a “Ganga-Mahakam Vision” based on shared civilisational heritage, democratic values and strategic cooperation.
Addressing Indonesian lawmakers in Jakarta, Modi thanked President Prabowo Subianto and Parliament Speaker Puan Maharani for their support in strengthening India-Indonesia relations.
The Prime Minister highlighted over two millennia of civilisational and maritime ties between the two nations and said the shared ideals of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) continue to shape the partnership.
Modi called for deeper collaboration in trade, investment, connectivity, food and energy security, digital public infrastructure and emerging technologies, while reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening the voice of the Global South and promoting a free, open, inclusive and rules-based Indo-Pacific.
He proposed the “Ganga-Mahakam Vision” as a framework for future cooperation, focusing on civilisational ties, shared development, strategic trust, maritime prosperity and stronger collaboration among developing nations.
