Gopeshwar, 26th Sept: Senior BJP leader Dr Murli Manohar Joshi has opposed the organisation of a loud music and dance programme at Badrinath Dham during a recent cultural festival, describing it as a violation of the shrine’s cultural traditions and an assault on its sanctity.
In a social media post, Joshi said permitting a loud music event at the Himalayan shrine was contrary to the cultural ethos associated with Badrinath.
He said Adi Guru Shankaracharya established the shrine in the Himalayan environment as a place for peaceful worship and devotion.
Expressing his displeasure, Joshi noted that even blowing a conch is traditionally prohibited at the site, while large-scale music and dance programmes were being organised there.
He also raised concerns over the possible impact on the health of thousands of people dancing at such a high altitude, besides what he described as the neglect of India’s spiritual, cultural and environmental values.
Joshi said such events were indicative of what he described as the transformation of Devbhoomi into a “commercialised culture”.
