New Delhi, 10th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with India’s Commonwealth Games champions and congratulated the athletes for bringing glory to the country, while highlighting the growing sports culture and ecosystem in India.
During the interaction, the Prime Minister said the success of Indian sportspersons has a powerful impact on young people, particularly school students. He noted that medals won by athletes can inspire children more effectively than verbal encouragement.
PM Modi emphasised that India’s sporting success depends not only on building stadiums and training facilities but also on creating a comprehensive sports culture across the country.
He highlighted the role of initiatives such as the Khelo India Scheme and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in supporting athletes from grassroots levels and helping them progress to international competitions.
The Prime Minister recalled several inspiring journeys of athletes who overcame injuries, hardships and other challenges to reach the podium. He said their achievements go beyond individual victories and become a source of inspiration for future generations.
PM Modi also praised the growing international stature of Indian athletes, particularly boxers, noting that competitors globally have begun recognising the strength of India’s sporting talent.
During the interaction, the Prime Minister highlighted instances of athletes dedicating their victories to their coaches and the armed forces, describing such expressions of gratitude and patriotism as adding to the significance of their achievements.
