VHP to Mark Ashok Singhal Birth Centenary in Guwahati on Oct 4

Guwahati, 25th Sept: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) North East Province will organise a programme in Guwahati on October 4, 2026, to mark the birth centenary year of its former leader Ashok Singhal.
The event will be held at the Sri Sri Damodardev International Auditorium, Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, Guwahati, from 4 pm. The programme is part of the year-long observances being organised by the VHP to commemorate Singhal’s birth centenary. The VHP has announced nationwide programmes during the centenary year.
According to the organisers, the chief guest at the Guwahati programme will be Sri Sri Janardan Dev Goswami, Sattradhikar of Uttar Kamalabari Satra, Majuli. Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal will attend as the special guest, while Vinayak Rao Deshpande, VHP’s Central Joint Organisation General Secretary, will be the main speaker.
The VHP’s organisational records identify Deshpande as the Central Joint Organisation General Secretary.
Details of the programme were announced at a press conference held at the Guwahati Press Club. The press conference was chaired by Chabin Rajkhowa, president of the VHP Guwahati Metropolitan Committee.
Parmesh Dutta, president of the VHP North East Province, welcomed the media representatives and spoke about Ashok Singhal’s life and his association with the organisation.
According to the organisers, Singhal, who had a background in engineering, left his professional career to dedicate himself to social and organisational work. They highlighted his role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and his work with the VHP.
The VHP has described Singhal as one of the key leaders associated with the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and has said that his birth centenary year will be used to highlight his contributions and organisational legacy.
Pallav Parashar, VHP Guwahati region’s special contact head, also spoke about Singhal’s life and work during the press conference.
The organisers recalled Singhal’s visits to Assam and his interactions with saints and religious leaders in the state. They said the upcoming programme would provide an opportunity to remember his contribution and discuss his ideas and public activities.
VHP’s official records also document Singhal’s participation in the organisation’s Dharma Sansad held in Guwahati in March 1994, indicating his earlier association with the region.
Chabin Rajkhowa, while addressing the media, acknowledged the role of journalists in covering public affairs and urged media representatives to continue their work responsibly.
The press conference concluded with an appeal to people to attend the October 4 birth centenary programme in Guwahati.
Ashok Singhal was born on September 27, 1926. The VHP is observing 2026-27 as his birth centenary year, with programmes planned across the country.
