New Delhi, 25th Sept: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) apprehended an Afghan national at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after sandalwood was found in his hand baggage, officials said.
The incident took place on Tuesday at Terminal 3 when the hand baggage of the Kabul-bound passenger was screened.
During the screening, CISF personnel recovered 11 transparent jars containing sandalwood from the baggage, officials said.
The passenger and the recovered sandalwood consignment were subsequently handed over to Customs authorities for further investigation.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the possession and movement of the aromatic timber. Unregulated transport and sale of sandalwood is illegal in India.
