VHP Hits Back at Revanth Reddy Over ‘Sangh Parivar’ Remarks

New Delhi, 26th Sept: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Saturday hit back at Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over his remarks describing the Sangh Parivar as the “biggest threat” to the country and democracy, accusing the Congress of pursuing what it termed “anti-India” and “appeasement” politics.
Reddy had made the remarks on Friday while receiving the Aryadan Muhammed-2026 Best Public Servant Award in Nilambur, Kerala. He framed the political contest as one between the “Gandhi Parivar” and the “Sangh Parivar” and called on people to support the Gandhi Parivar.
Responding to the Telangana chief minister, VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal said the Sangh Parivar stood for patriotism and respect for constitutional institutions, while accusing the Congress of attacking constitutional institutions and positions.
“On one side is patriotism and on the other is treason,” Bansal said, according to the statement. He also questioned what he described as the Congress’ approach towards the Constitution, rule of law and judiciary.
Bansal further alleged that the Congress had maintained an “appeasement” approach over several decades and accused the party of supporting what he described as “anti-national forces”. These were political allegations made by the VHP spokesperson and were not independently established in the statement.
Referring to the recent controversy surrounding the screening of a documentary on jailed activist Umar Khalid, Bansal accused the Congress of supporting people with an “extremist” mindset. He also alleged that the party’s alleged appeasement politics had harmed the Congress itself.
The VHP spokesperson also said the Congress should reconsider its political approach and apologise to Hindu society, while making further allegations against the party over its positions on national and security-related issues.
Reddy’s remarks in Kerala had drawn criticism from the BJP and VHP. The Telangana chief minister, while receiving the award, said the Sangh Parivar was seeking to divide India on the basis of caste, religion, region and language. He also said his remaining political ambition was to see Congress leader Rahul Gandhi become Prime Minister.
The VHP’s response adds to the political exchange triggered by Reddy’s comments, with both sides presenting sharply contrasting views on the role of the Sangh Parivar, Congress and constitutional institutions.
