New Delhi, 22nd Sept: Three men have been arrested after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped at a park near Delhi’s Kalkaji Mandir on Monday evening, police said.
According to the complaint, the girl had gone to Kalkaji Mandir with a 17-year-old male friend around 7 pm. The two later went to a nearby park, where three men allegedly approached them and claimed to be policemen.
The accused allegedly threatened the teenagers before sexually assaulting the girl. One of the accused allegedly threatened her with a firearm and knife, while the other two subsequently assaulted her, police said.
A PCR call was received around 8:45 pm, following which a police team reached the spot. The girl was taken for medical examination, while investigators examined CCTV footage from the park and surrounding areas.
During the investigation, police teams were formed to trace the accused. Police said one suspect, identified as Asif, was intercepted near DM Office Road in Amar Colony. He allegedly opened fire at the police team, firing three rounds despite being asked to surrender. Police then shot him in the right leg and arrested him.
Asif, who reportedly works at Okhla Mandi, was subsequently taken into custody. The other two accused, identified as Hemant and Mukesh, were also arrested on Tuesday.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Fourth Minor Rape Case Reported in Delhi in 10 Days
The incident comes amid three other reported cases involving minors in Delhi since September 13.
On September 13, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and killed in northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar.
On September 16, a 10-year-old Class 6 student was allegedly sexually assaulted inside a shop in Sadar Bazar.
On September 21, a six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 34-year-old man in Kishan Ganj.
