Patna, 24th Sept: Former Patna Municipal Corporation councillor Anil Yadav was seriously injured after two unidentified men allegedly opened fire at him in the basement of his apartment on Wednesday evening, police said.
According to CCTV footage, three men arrived at the apartment on a motorcycle. Two of them allegedly fired multiple rounds at Yadav within a few seconds before fleeing the spot with firearms, locals said.
Yadav sustained four to five bullet injuries to his hands, lower abdomen and legs, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Krishna Murari Prasad said. He was taken to Udyan Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Officials from the Buddha Colony police station reached the spot soon after the incident and launched an investigation. Police are examining CCTV footage from the apartment and nearby houses to identify the attackers.
Police teams are also conducting raids at suspected hideouts in an effort to apprehend the accused, Prasad said. The motive behind the shooting is yet to be established, with investigators examining possible angles, including previous enmity.
The shooting triggered panic in the residential locality. The apartment building reportedly also houses a girls’ hostel on its first floor.
Prashant Kishor visits hospital
Jan Suraaj MLA Prashant Kishor visited the hospital to enquire about Yadav’s condition. He criticised the law-and-order situation in Patna and alleged that the police force was being influenced by criminal elements.
Kishor described the situation as “jungle raj” and made allegations concerning the functioning of the state government. These allegations have not been independently established.
Yadav is a former councillor from Ward 24 of the Patna Municipal Corporation. His wife, Gyanwati Devi, is the sitting councillor from the ward.
The shooting also comes days after the couple’s son was reportedly shot dead. Police are examining whether there is any connection between the two incidents.
