Young Historians Must Bring Indian Perspective to History Writing: Dr Bal Mukund Pandey

New Delhi, 24th Sept: A meeting-cum-workshop on research writing, research formats and action plans for the upcoming Young Historians’ Conference was held at the auditorium of the central office of the Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana.

Dr Bal Mukund Pandey, who attended the workshop as chief guest and mentor, emphasised the important role of young historians and social scientists in rewriting history and bringing new dimensions to the study of India’s past.

Pandey reviewed preparations for the conference, including participant numbers and progress on various organisational activities. According to the information shared at the meeting, around 500 participants are expected to attend the conference.

He appreciated the enthusiasm and efforts of the organisers and stressed the need to encourage young historians in research-paper writing while providing them with appropriate academic guidance. He also called for coordination and cooperation among all workers to ensure the successful conduct of the conference.

Pandey urged participants to remain committed to both historical research and their organisational responsibilities. A book on history writing authored by Prashant Jain is also proposed to be released during the programme.

During the workshop, Pandey reviewed various aspects of the conference preparations and provided guidance on research writing, organisational responsibilities and maintaining quality in historical scholarship.

He also directed the formation of a WhatsApp group for young historians to facilitate quick and effective communication. Directions were also issued regarding transportation arrangements, ensuring convenient travel for participants and addressing logistical requirements. He reviewed progress related to the publication of the conference souvenir as well.

Addressing the participants, Pandey highlighted the energy, determination and capacity for hard work among India’s youth. He said young people have an important role in contributing to the country’s development and in achieving the goal of building a developed India by 2047.

He also stressed that national development cannot be measured only through economic progress and said young citizens must remain conscious of constitutional values including justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. He highlighted social harmony, environmental protection, respect for women, protection of public property and faith in democratic institutions as important values for nation-building.

Dr Ratnesh Kumar Tripathi, National Minister, expressed gratitude to the participants and said young historians should adopt both humanistic and scientific approaches while working towards the rewriting of history. He emphasised the need for analytical thinking in responding to contemporary requirements.

Dr Narendra Shukla, a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Lekhak Parishad, encouraged participants to intensify preparations for the upcoming Young Historians’ Conference and called for maximum participation of young researchers.

Dr Nirmal Pandey, General Secretary of the Delhi province, also addressed the workshop and encouraged participants to complete their research abstracts and promptly share their travel and arrival-departure details.

The session was chaired by Professor (Dr) Dharm Chand Chaubey, who thanked all participants and encouraged them to undertake research-paper writing. He assured researchers of support in resolving difficulties related to their papers.

Dr Sudhakar Kumar Mishra, Mukesh Upadhyay, Dr Sachin Ratan Jha, Dr Piyush Mishra, Dr Asmit Sharma, Dr Bambam, Dr Ramakant Dubey, Dr Satyaprakash, Dr Pradeep Kumar Upadhyay, Dr Ajay Kumar Singh, Dr Vivek and Dr Shailesh were among those present.
