New Delhi, 8th Nov: President Droupadi Murmu extended Diwali greetings to citizens in India and abroad on Saturday, wishing them good health, happiness and prosperity. She also urged people to protect the environment, maintain harmony and contribute to building Viksit Bharat.

In her message on the eve of the festival, the President recalled the cultural and devotional significance of Diwali, which is associated with Bhagwan Shri Ram’s return to Ayodhya after his victory over Ravana.

She noted that the illuminated rows of lamps following his return form an important part of the festival’s significance and symbolise the auspicious beginning of Ram Rajya.

Describing Diwali as a celebration of the victory of virtues over negative tendencies, Murmu said the festival marks the end of suffering and the beginning of a joyful and prosperous life.

She also referred to the religious traditions associated with the occasion, when people worship Bhagwan Ganesh for auspicious beginnings and well-being, and Mahalakshmi Mata for prosperity. Prayers are also offered for the happiness of all.

The President wished every citizen good health, happiness and prosperity. She expressed hope that people would preserve the environment and live in harmony, while patriotic youth, guided by Indian values, would contribute enthusiastically to building Viksit Bharat.
