Bengal Police Sees Major Reshuffle

• West Bengal transfers 23 police officers in major reshuffle.
• Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam appointed Additional Commissioner, Kolkata Police.
• Changes made in Intelligence Branch, CID and cyber units.
• Several senior officers moved to key Kolkata and Bidhannagar posts.

Kolkata, 26th Sept: The West Bengal government has carried out a major reshuffle in the state police administration, transferring 23 IPS and West Bengal Police Service officers, according to a notification issued by the Home and Hill Affairs Department on September 25.

The notification said the transfers were made “in the interest of public service” and included changes involving the Kolkata Police, Intelligence Branch, CID and other key police units.

Key Kolkata Police changes
STF Inspector General of Police Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam has been appointed Additional Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, replacing Devendra Prakash Singh.

Singh has been transferred as Inspector General of the Intelligence Branch, North Bengal.

Bholanath Pandey, who was serving as Deputy Inspector General of the Intelligence Branch, has been appointed Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Traffic), replacing Surya Pratap Yadav.

Yadav will now serve as DIG of the state Intelligence Branch.

Sukhen Hira, currently DIG (Security), West Bengal, has been appointed Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Security).

Debarshi Dutta, DIG of the West Bengal Police Housing & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, has been appointed Joint Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar.

Changes in CID and cyber wings
The reshuffle also covers Kolkata Police’s detective and cyber wings.

Dhritiman Sarkar has been transferred as Superintendent of Police, Malda CID, while Arish Bilal has been appointed SP, West Bengal CID.

Soumyadip Bhattacharya, currently Commanding Officer of the SAP 1st Battalion, has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber-II, Kolkata.

Kolkata Enforcement Branch DCP Sparsha Nilangi has been transferred as DCP, Detective Department, Kolkata.

Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed has been appointed DCP, Detective Department, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, while Kuntal Banerjee has been posted as DCP, Barrackpore Police Commissionerate.

The transfers will take effect from the dates on which the officers assume charge of their respective new posts.
