Four Personnel Arrested Over Alleged Gangrape in Amroha

Amroha, 24th Sept: Two Uttar Pradesh Police personnel and two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have been arrested for the alleged gangrape of a 24-year-old woman from Haryana at a farmhouse in Amroha district, police said on Wednesday.
The alleged incident took place in the Hasanpur area of Amroha. Those arrested include a sub-inspector and a head constable posted at Hasanpur police station, along with a CRPF sub-inspector and a head constable.
According to Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav, the woman, a resident of Haryana’s Fatehabad district, alleged that she was contacted on September 20 by a female acquaintance who asked her to meet CRPF Inspector Mohit, a resident of Saurang village in Muzaffarnagar, for a visit to religious places in Amroha.
The woman allegedly met Mohit in Sonipat on September 21, following which they travelled to Meerut. There, Mohit’s colleague, CRPF Head Constable Lalaram Yadav, a resident of Rajasthan’s Alwar district, joined them.
On the evening of September 22, the two men allegedly took the woman to Hasanpur in a car and picked up Uttar Pradesh Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Tomar on the way. They then allegedly took her to a farmhouse on the Atrasi-Hasanpur road, where two rooms were rented.
According to the complaint, police Head Constable Pramod arranged food and liquor for the group.
The woman alleged that Mohit, Yadav and Tomar sexually assaulted her in turns. She further alleged that Pramod entered the room and attempted to assault her, but she managed to push him out and lock the door.
She subsequently searched online for a police helpline number and contacted the police at around 6 am on Wednesday.
Teams from the Hasanpur and Rajabpur police stations reached the farmhouse, took the woman to safety and apprehended all four accused.
FIR registered, four sent to judicial custody
SP Lakhan Singh Yadav said an FIR had been registered on the basis of the woman’s complaint under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to abduction or enticement and gangrape.
All four accused have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody, the SP said.
Departmental proceedings have also been initiated against the Uttar Pradesh Police sub-inspector following his suspension. A report has been sent to senior CRPF authorities recommending strict disciplinary action against the two CRPF personnel, according to the police.
Hasanpur Kotwali in-charge Amar Pal Singh said the farmhouse where the alleged incident took place reportedly belongs to an independent MLA from Uttarakhand. Police have questioned the property’s manager as part of the investigation.
Investigation underway
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, including the events leading to the woman’s arrival at the farmhouse and the role of the property manager.
The allegations against the four personnel are subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
Reacting to the incident, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticised the alleged involvement of police personnel and said the incident was a “stain” on the police force. He called for strict action in the matter.
