New Delhi, 8th Aug: Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Health & Family Welfare J.P. Nadda on Saturday released a knowledge paper titled “AI in MedTech: Revolutionizing Healthcare Through Artificial Intelligence” at the 9th edition of India Medical Device 2026 held at Vigyan Bhawan.
Jointly developed by Praxis Global Alliance in association with FICCI, the report examines India’s AI-enabled MedTech landscape and outlines strategic measures needed to accelerate responsible adoption of artificial intelligence across healthcare.
The report identifies five key priorities, including strengthening AI-ready health data, creating lifecycle-based regulatory frameworks, expanding reimbursement mechanisms, scaling AI-enabled diagnostics and promoting coordinated action among government, regulators, industry, healthcare providers and academia.
It notes that while initiatives such as the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, IndiaAI Mission and the National Medical Devices Policy, 2023 have laid a strong foundation, challenges remain in scaling AI solutions from pilot projects to routine clinical use.
The knowledge paper highlights AI-enabled diagnostics as the first major area for large-scale deployment, with the potential to improve access to specialist care, enhance productivity and reduce healthcare disparities. It also states that India’s digital public infrastructure, software capabilities and growing medical device manufacturing ecosystem position the country to emerge as a global leader in responsible AI-enabled medical technologies.
