1st Vidyapati Samaroh in Germany Celebrates Maithil Heritage
International Maithil Diaspora hosts two-day event in Frankfurt, bringing together community members, artists and cultural organisations

Frankfurt, (Germany), 22nd Sept: The International Maithil Diaspora (IMD) successfully organised the first Vidyapati Samaroh in Germany, a grand two-day celebration dedicated to legendary poet Mahakavi Vidyapati and the preservation and promotion of Maithil culture, art and literature. The historic event witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the Maithil community who travelled from different parts of Germany.
Day 1: ‘Mithila Milan’ brings community together
The first day of the two-day convention was celebrated as ‘Mithila Milan’, bringing together around 70 Maithils, Maithilanis and children from several German cities and states, including Frankfurt, Hamburg, Bremen, Magdeburg, Erlangen, Nuremberg, Aachen and Saxony-Anhalt.
The gathering provided an opportunity for families and community members living abroad to reconnect with their roots. Participants met with warmth, strengthened community ties, pledged mutual support and reaffirmed their commitment to passing Maithil heritage and traditions on to the younger generation.
Main ceremony inaugurated by Indian Vice Consul
The main programme on the second day was formally inaugurated with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony by Chief Guest Rajiv Kumar, Vice Consul, Consulate General of India, Frankfurt.
Addressing the gathering, Vice Consul Rajiv Kumar praised the community’s efforts to preserve its linguistic and cultural roots overseas. He also highlighted the enduring global contribution of Mahakavi Vidyapati.
The programme began with a welcome address by Keshav Jha, who extended a warm welcome to guests, artists and attendees who had travelled from different cities to participate in the event.

The stage proceedings were anchored by Pallavi Jha, Vatsala Jha and Dr. Deepak Mishra, whose energetic hosting kept the audience engaged throughout the programme.
The event’s digital outreach and social media management were handled by Sony Priya.
Mithila exhibition showcases food and traditional culture
A special Mithila Exhibition was among the major attractions of the main ceremony. It featured authentic Maithil delicacies, traditional food items and premium Makhana (fox nuts).
The cultural atmosphere was further enhanced by traditional attire. Most Maithil men wore the traditional Lal Paag (Paag-Dopatta), while women appeared in traditional attire, filling the auditorium with the vibrant colours and visual identity of Mithila’s heritage.
Community organisations extend support
Several local and social organisations contributed to the success of the event. Frankfurt Divas played a significant role in organising and performing in local cultural programmes.
The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) also extended valuable support to the celebration.
Children and Maithilanis showcase cultural talent
The two-day celebration featured a series of cultural performances involving children and community members.
Children actively participated and showcased their talents, while Maithil women, or Maithilanis, presented graceful dance performances set to traditional Maithili folk songs and the sacred compositions of Vidyapati.
Members of diverse communities and organisations from Frankfurt and neighbouring regions also participated, reflecting a spirit of multicultural unity at the event.
‘Mithila Prabha’ souvenir magazine unveiled
A key highlight of the celebration was the ceremonial launch of the souvenir magazine ‘Mithila Prabha’ by the Chief Guest and distinguished dignitaries.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar Mishra serves as the magazine’s Chief Editor. The editorial and co-editorial board includes Pallavi Jha, Nirupama Jha, Dr. Sanjit Jha, Pradeep Jha and Sanjay Kumar.
The publication represents an important effort towards preserving and promoting Maithili language, literature and art internationally.
Dr Rajesh Kumar Mishra delivers vote of thanks
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Rajesh Kumar Mishra.
He expressed deep gratitude to Chief Guest Vice Consul Rajiv Kumar of the Consulate General of India, Frankfurt, along with all supporting organisations, artists, the digital and social media team, volunteers and attendees who travelled from different parts of Germany to participate in the event.
The celebration concluded with a spread of traditional Maithil cuisine and warm social interactions among participants.
The first Vidyapati Samaroh in Germany thus brought together members of the Maithil diaspora around language, literature, art, food, traditional attire and community participation, while highlighting their efforts to preserve and pass on Mithila’s cultural heritage to future generations.
