Three Arrested for Gang-Rape of Two Minor Girls in Assam
Police say the girls were allegedly abducted from Mizoram and sexually assaulted in a moving car in Cachar district.

Silchar, 7th Aug: Assam Police have arrested three youths for allegedly abducting two minor girls from Mizoram and gang-raping them in a moving car, officials said.
The accused have been identified as Amjad Hussain Laskar, 20, a resident of Rajnagar; Saddam Hussain Laskar, 23, of Bhaga Bazar; and Rinku Das, 25, of Khaspur. All three are residents of Assam’s Cachar district.
According to police, the incident came to light in the early hours of August 3 when the two girls reached Dholai Police Station at around 2.30 am and reported that they had been abducted and sexually assaulted.
Rajat Pal, Additional Superintendent of Police, Cachar, said the girls initially alleged that the accused had attempted to rape them and later stated that they had been gang-raped despite resisting.
Since both victims claimed to be minors, police initiated proceedings under the relevant provisions applicable to sexual offences against children.
Police said statements of both victims have been recorded and mandatory medical examinations conducted. The three accused were produced before a court after completion of the initial legal formalities.
A case has been registered under Sections 70(2), relating to gang rape of a woman under 18 years of age, and 87, relating to abduction, of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, dealing with aggravated penetrative sexual assault, has also been invoked.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
