New Delhi, 13th Aug: Dr Padma Gurmet, Director of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR), Leh, has been conferred the UT Ladakh State Award 2025 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the preservation, promotion and development of the Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine in Ladakh.
The award was presented by Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena during the UT State Awards ceremony, where 36 distinguished individuals were honoured for the years 2022 to 2025 for their exemplary service and significant contributions across various fields.
Addressing the ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor said the State Awards recognise individuals whose dedication, excellence and public service have made a meaningful impact on society. He also underlined the importance of inspiring the younger generation to pursue excellence and contribute to the development and welfare of the Union Territory.
Dr Gurmet’s recognition marks a significant achievement for the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa and reflects his sustained efforts towards preserving and strengthening one of Ladakh’s oldest traditional systems of medicine and healthcare.
The institute described the honour as an important acknowledgement of Dr Gurmet’s work in advancing Sowa-Rigpa and promoting its wider recognition. Faculty members, staff and students of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa extended their congratulations to him and wished him continued success in his efforts to further develop and promote the traditional medical system.
