Xi Jinping on 2 days visit to Washington, Trump plans rare airport welcome

WASHINGTON – Chinese President Xi Jinping will travel to Washington on a two days official visit to meet US President Donald Trump from September 23 to 25, China’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
Guo Jiakun stated that the reciprocal visits by the two heads of state within a six-month period are “historic, milestone significance.”
He noted that Xi Jinping will be holding “in-depth exchanges of views” with Trump on major issues concerning China-US relations, as well as world peace and development.

The spokesperson added that Beijing is willing to work with Washington to “strengthen dialogue and cooperation, properly manage differences, continuously enhance the well-being of the peoples of both countries, and promote world peace, stability and prosperity.”
Trump and Xi Jinping last met in Beijing in May during the US President’s China visit.
They held talks aimed at improving ties between the world’s two largest economies.
According to reports, Trump is planning to accord a rare airport reception to Xi by personally receive him on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews.
Both are expected to discuss a wide range of issues, including trade tariffs and technology to AI, military-to-military ties, conflict in West Asia, the Russia-Ukraine war, the space arms race as well as US arms sales to Taiwan.
Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer held “candid, in-depth and constructive” talks on economic and trade issues, including artificial intelligence in New York.
Xi-Trump talks will take place against the backdrop of Trump signing a new sanctions law authorising him to impose tariffs of up to 100 per cent on countries buying Russian oil and gas, including China and India.
Trump signed the Lindsey O Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026.
It authorized expanded sanctions and gives the President powers to impose tariffs on countries that buy Russian energy.
