New Delhi, 22nd Sept: Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy held talks with a delegation of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) in New Delhi on Tuesday, focusing on strengthening India-EU cooperation in industrial development, clean energy, electric mobility and industrial decarbonisation.
The delegation included Members of the European Parliament Raffaele Stancanelli, Angelika Winzig, Mohammed Chahim, Raúl de la Hoz Quintano, Nicolas Gonzalez Casares, Morten Løkkegaard, Jüri Ratas and Virginijus Sinkevičius, along with officials from the ITRE Secretariat.
Kumaraswamy said the discussions come at an important stage in India-EU relations following the 16th India-EU Summit in January 2026, where the two sides concluded negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement and adopted the Joint India-EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda.
The Minister highlighted opportunities to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, technology and global supply chains.
EVs, batteries and domestic manufacturing
Kumaraswamy outlined key initiatives of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, including the PLI Scheme for Automobile and Auto Components, PLI Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC) and PM E-DRIVE.
These initiatives are aimed at expanding domestic manufacturing, accelerating electric mobility and strengthening India’s electric vehicle ecosystem.
He also invited European companies to participate in the ongoing global bidding process for 10 GWh of Advanced Chemistry Cell manufacturing capacity for stationary energy storage systems. The bidding process is open until October 13, 2026.
The Minister also highlighted India’s efforts towards industrial decarbonisation and the energy transition, including BHEL’s indigenous gasification technology.
For the steel sector, he pointed to measures focused on scrap recycling, utilisation of steel slag and circular economy practices as part of efforts to advance greener steel production.
The European Parliament delegation appreciated India’s efforts to accelerate electric mobility, strengthen domestic manufacturing and advance industrial decarbonisation.
The delegation also expressed interest in expanding India-EU cooperation in clean technologies, sustainable mobility and advanced energy solutions.
Kumaraswamy said India and the European Union could combine their strengths to accelerate the clean energy transition and promote sustainable transport through innovative e-mobility solutions.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Steel, including Secretary Kamran Rizvi and Additional Secretary Hanif Qureshi, also attended the meeting.
