HM Amit Shah Inaugurates ₹1,941-Crore Delhi Road Projects

New Delhi, 29th Sept: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Tuesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a series of road infrastructure projects in Delhi with a combined value of more than ₹1,941 crore, aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic movement across the national capital.
The key project inaugurated was Barapullah Elevated Road Phase-3, constructed at a revised cost of approximately ₹1,635 crore. Shah dedicated the completed corridor to the people of Delhi at an event in the capital.
According to the Press Information Bureau release, the project is intended to provide signal-free connectivity between East and South Delhi, helping commuters avoid traffic congestion and reduce travel time.
In a post on X, Shah said the newly inaugurated projects would strengthen Delhi’s connectivity and make daily travel easier for residents. He said Barapullah Phase-3 would provide smoother movement between East and South Delhi, while the Modi Mill-Savitri Cinema Flyover and Loni Underpass would further strengthen the city’s road network.
Barapullah Phase-3 connects East Delhi with South Delhi
The Barapullah Phase-3 elevated corridor links Mayur Vihar Phase-1 with Sarai Kale Khan and connects with the existing Barapullah corridor. The combined elevated route extends to roughly 9-10 kilometres, depending on how the completed corridor and connecting stretches are measured.
The corridor is designed to provide signal-free movement towards AIIMS and South Delhi. Officials have said the project could reduce the average journey between East Delhi/Noida and AIIMS from around 35-40 minutes to about 15 minutes, depending on traffic conditions and the starting point.
The project also incorporates facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. Its Yamuna crossing forms an important part of the elevated corridor.
The project was originally approved in 2014, with construction beginning in 2015. It was initially targeted for completion in 2017 but experienced several delays, including issues related to land, clearances and construction around the Yamuna. Its revised cost subsequently rose to around ₹1,635 crore.
Two more projects receive foundation stones
During the programme, foundation stones were also laid for the Modi Mill-Savitri Cinema Flyover and the Loni Underpass.
The Modi Mill-Savitri Cinema project is aimed at improving traffic movement in South Delhi, while the Loni Underpass is intended to address congestion and improve connectivity in the Loni-Shahdara area.
The wider package of road projects is aimed at addressing traffic bottlenecks at key points across Delhi and improving connectivity for commuters.
The inauguration programme was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, members of her Cabinet and Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra, among others.
