Kolkata, 29th Sept: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday conducted searches at multiple locations linked to former West Bengal minister Indranil Sen in connection with an alleged case of illegal fund collection using the name of a United Nations body, sources said.
According to sources, ED teams searched a farmhouse in Singur in Hooghly district and Sen’s residence in Kasba, Kolkata. Searches were also underway at several other locations, including Highland Park. A close relative of the former minister was also among those whose premises were searched.
Central security personnel accompanied the ED teams during the operation and cordoned off the locations where searches were being conducted.
The case relates to allegations that funds were collected by misusing the name of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), particularly in connection with Durga Puja. Sen’s wife, Madhuchhanda, has also been named as an accused in the case.
Sources said a businessman allegedly close to the former minister is among those being investigated in connection with the alleged fund collection network.
The searches follow a police complaint filed in June by a resident of West Bengal against Sen, his wife and a company. The complaint alleged that money was collected by misusing UNESCO’s association with Durga Puja.
Sen, who served as West Bengal’s tourism minister, contested the 2026 Assembly election as a Trinamool Congress candidate from Hooghly but was defeated.
BJP leader and minister Dilip Ghosh, commenting on the action, said complaints of alleged corruption should be investigated and referred to allegations of illegal collections made in the name of Durga Puja.
The ED searches are part of the ongoing investigation. The allegations against the individuals involved have not been established by a court.
