Ranchi, 10th Aug: The agitation by students demanding reforms in Jharkhand’s recruitment examinations is set to intensify on Monday as protesters prepare to march to the State Assembly, with the movement entering its 17th consecutive day despite several rounds of discussions with the state government.
The march, scheduled to begin at 11 am, is expected to draw students from across Jharkhand. Protesters have been arriving in Ranchi since early morning by trains, buses and other vehicles to participate in the demonstration.
The students are pressing for comprehensive reforms in the state’s recruitment examination system, alleging irregularities in recent competitive exams. Despite multiple meetings between student representatives and the government, the deadlock remains unresolved.
Ahead of the Assembly march, the Ranchi administration has stepped up security across the city. Barricades have been erected at key intersections and sensitive locations, while a heavy deployment of police personnel has been made to prevent any untoward incident.
“We want the government to listen to our concerns and respond,” one of the protesting students said before the march.
As a precautionary measure, most schools in Ranchi remained closed on Monday.
The protest comes amid growing scrutiny of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), which witnessed a major administrative shake-up on Sunday following the ongoing controversy surrounding alleged examination irregularities.
The students have maintained that they will continue their agitation until concrete measures are announced to ensure transparency and accountability in the state’s recruitment process. Government officials are yet to indicate whether fresh talks with student representatives will be held following the Assembly march.
