New Delhi, 10th Aug: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said Operation Sindoor demonstrated the unmatched courage of the Indian Armed Forces and conveyed a strong global message that India would go to any extent to ensure the safety of its citizens and protect the honour of its women.

Addressing the ‘Sindoor Maharaktadan Yatra’ Blood Donation Camp at Base Hospital in Delhi Cantonment, the Defence Minister praised the armed forces for eliminating terrorists and their handlers based in Pakistan and ensuring that those targeting India faced severe consequences.

Drawing a comparison between Operation Sindoor and the blood donation initiative, Rajnath Singh said while the military operation symbolised courage, the Sindoor Maharaktadan Yatra reflected compassion and service to the nation.

Nearly 1,000 wrestlers and athletes from Maharashtra participated in the blood donation drive, demonstrating solidarity with the armed forces. The Defence Minister thanked the donors and said the blood collected would serve as a valuable reserve for soldiers and their families in times of need.

Describing blood donation as ‘Jivandan’ and ‘Mahadan’, Rajnath Singh noted that despite advancements in medical science, there is still no artificial substitute for human blood. He stressed that voluntary blood donation remains one of the noblest acts of public service.

The Defence Minister urged the youth to make blood donation a regular practice and cultivate a culture of voluntary donations. He said that by the time India celebrates 100 years of Independence in 2047, the country should aspire not only to become a developed economy but also a compassionate society with adequate blood reserves available for emergencies.

Highlighting the importance of physical fitness, Rajnath Singh said initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India are encouraging young people to adopt healthier lifestyles, making them better prepared to contribute to society through initiatives like blood donation.

He also praised Maharashtra’s tradition of courage and sacrifice, stating that the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj continues to inspire generations. The participation of athletes and wrestlers from the state, he said, reflected the spirit of service and national commitment.

The event was attended by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Minister of State for Ayush Pratap Rao Jadhav, Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth, senior Armed Forces Medical Services officials and other military and civil dignitaries.

The Armed Forces Medical Services said maintaining adequate blood reserves remains crucial for military hospitals to meet routine healthcare as well as operational and emergency medical requirements. The voluntary donation drive reinforced the ethos of ‘Service Before Self’ and highlighted the role citizens can play in saving lives through regular blood donation.
