GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 6th Aug: AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal has questioned Meta after claiming that his social media account has been restricted in India, alleging that the technology company has neither provided a reason for the action nor explained how the restriction can be removed.

Kejriwal raised the issue in a post on X, sharing an image that showed his account as “unavailable in some locations”. He said verbal enquiries with Meta’s India office indicated that the account had been restricted and was unavailable to users in India.

“Why have you restricted my account?” Kejriwal asked, alleging that company officials had failed to provide an explanation despite repeated attempts to seek clarification.

The AAP leader also claimed that emails sent to the company had received only routine acknowledgements, with no substantive response on either the reason for the restriction or the steps required to restore access.

Kejriwal described the lack of clarity and response from the company as “pretty bad service”.

There was no immediate response from Meta to Kejriwal’s allegations.

The development assumes significance given India’s position as Meta’s largest market by users, with hundreds of millions of people accessing its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

Kejriwal’s complaint comes a day after Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan apologised to Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw over an error that had led to the restriction of a post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Facebook last month.

Kaplan said after meeting Vaishnaw on Wednesday that he had apologised to the minister on behalf of Meta for the error involving the Prime Minister’s post.

The reason behind the reported restriction on Kejriwal’s account, however, remains unclear, with the AAP leader now publicly seeking an explanation from the company.
