Lok Sabha Speaker leads floral tributes at Samvidhan Sadan on Dr. G.S. Dhillon’s birth anniversary

- Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh and MPs also joined the tribute.
- Dhillon served as Speaker of the Fourth and Fifth Lok Sabha.
- He was also a freedom fighter, journalist and advocate of communal harmony.

New Delhi, 6th Aug: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday paid floral tributes to former Lok Sabha Speaker Dr. G.S. Dhillon on his birth anniversary at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan.
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Members and former Members of Parliament, Lok Sabha Secretary-General Utpal Kumar Singh and other dignitaries also paid their respects.
Dr. Dhillon was a distinguished parliamentarian, freedom fighter and journalist who participated in the freedom struggle and Kisan Movement before taking up journalism after Independence. As Chief Editor of the Urdu daily Sher-e-Bharat and Managing Director of National Sikh Newspapers Ltd., he promoted communal harmony and social unity.
Elected to the Fourth Lok Sabha from Taran Taran in 1967, Dhillon became Speaker on August 8, 1969. He was re-elected Speaker of the Fifth Lok Sabha on March 22, 1971, and served until December 1, 1975.
His portrait, painted by Samir Das and unveiled by then-President Pranab Mukherjee in February 2014, is displayed at Samvidhan Sadan.
