New Delhi, 8th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the 57th Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, urging graduating students to become innovators and problem-solvers while contributing to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
Addressing more than 3,000 graduating students, including 587 PhD scholars, the Prime Minister said an IIT degree represents the ability to solve complex challenges rather than merely securing high academic scores or placements.
“The one who keeps learning continuously is the one who succeeds. Keep your curiosity alive and always have the courage to find solutions to problems,” the Prime Minister said.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi presented the institute’s highest honours, including the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, and Perfect Ten Gold Medals to meritorious students.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated ‘Param Pragya’, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility established at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus. The advanced computing infrastructure is expected to strengthen research in artificial intelligence, data science, advanced computing and interdisciplinary innovation.
Highlighting India’s technological transformation, the Prime Minister said the country is rapidly advancing towards self-reliance in economic, industrial and technological sectors, creating unprecedented opportunities for young professionals.
He pointed to the rapid expansion of India’s startup ecosystem, semiconductor manufacturing, space sector, drone technology, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, deep-sea exploration and critical minerals as emerging areas offering significant career prospects.
Emphasising the importance of research, the Prime Minister referred to initiatives such as the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship, the Anusandhan National Research Foundation and the ‘One Nation One Subscription’ programme aimed at strengthening India’s research ecosystem.
Warning students against comparing themselves with others through social media, he advised them to focus on continuous self-improvement.
“Life is not a leaderboard. Your real competition is with yourself,” the Prime Minister said.
Concluding his address, Prime Minister Modi congratulated the graduating students, their families, teachers and the IIT Delhi community, expressing confidence that the graduates would play a key role in building a Viksit Bharat through innovation, leadership and technological excellence.
