VP Radhakrishnan Launches Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign
C. P. Radhakrishnan Flags Off Nationwide Initiative from Andaman & Nicobar, Calls Tricolour a Symbol of Unity

Sri Vijaya Puram, 9th Aug: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday launched the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan by hoisting the National Flag at Flag Point in Sri Vijaya Puram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, on the occasion of August Kranti Diwas, commemorating the Quit India Movement of 1942.
Addressing the State Function and Tiranga Concert on Vande Mataram at the DBRAIT Auditorium, the Vice-President said there could be no more appropriate place to launch the nationwide campaign than the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which hold a special place in India’s freedom struggle and the history of the Tricolour.
Describing the islands as a “sacred land of sacrifice,” he paid tribute to Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and countless other freedom fighters who endured imprisonment at the Cellular Jail. He said their courage and patriotism continue to inspire generations of Indians.
Recalling the Quit India Movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi on August 8, 1942, the Vice-President said the call of “Do or Die” gave decisive momentum to India’s freedom struggle. He also highlighted the historic significance of the islands, where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the Indian National Flag on December 30, 1943.
Calling the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign a people’s movement initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shri Radhakrishnan urged every citizen to proudly display the National Flag and embrace the values of patriotism, unity and collective responsibility.
Affirming the country’s unity, he said, “Bharat is one and will always remain one.”
The Vice-President also highlighted the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a living example of ‘Unity in Diversity’ and praised recent improvements in connectivity, healthcare, education and infrastructure. He said the Great Nicobar Development Project would further strengthen India’s maritime capabilities, improve connectivity and create new economic opportunities while maintaining environmental balance.
Emphasising the importance of national security, Shri Radhakrishnan said India has always stood for peace and generosity but must remain prepared to safeguard its sovereignty and national interests.
During the visit, the Vice-President also attended a cultural programme and visited the Har Ghar Tiranga Exhibition, which showcased the campaign’s message of national unity and patriotism.
The event was attended by Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Admiral D. K. Joshi (Retd.), Chief Secretary Chanchal Yadav, Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council Chairperson M. Vasantha, Zilla Parishad Adhyaksh P. Ummer and other dignitaries.
