MEA Says Dialogue, Diplomacy Only Way to End Russia-Ukraine War
India reiterates readiness to contribute to peace efforts as Jaishankar meets Ukraine’s foreign minister at UNGA

WASHINGTON/UNITED NATIONS – Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday reiterated India’s call for a peaceful resolution of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy at the earliest.
It remained that India is in touch with both sides and was ready to contribute to efforts to end the war.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Monday on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York.
“In this meeting, Jaishankar discussed the recent developments that are happening in the Russia-Ukraine conflict,” Jaiswal said.
“The External Affairs Minister once again put forth India’s point that dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward for peaceful resolution,” he added.
He said, “India is in touch with both sides, Ukraine and Russia, and we have told them that if there is any way that India can contribute, India is ready to do so.”
“I would also like to highlight what Prime Minister Narendra Modi said when he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Bishkek: that endless war must now give way or move toward an end to war. So, India hopes that there will be a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, at an early date or time,” the MEA spokesperson Jaiswal added.
Jaishankar spoke about the meeting in a post on X, said it provided an opportunity to discuss developments since his recent visit to Ukraine.

Sybiha, in a post on X, said that both sides discussed peace efforts, bilateral cooperation and international developments, including the situation in the Black Sea and its implications for markets.
“I was pleased to meet with Dr S Jaishankar to discuss peace efforts, bilateral cooperation, and international developments. We spoke about the situation in the Black Sea and its market implications. Restoring freedom of navigation is critical for global food security. Ukraine is ready to play a constructive role and we value India’s engagement,” the post read.
Sybiha’s remarks on the Black Sea came alongside discussions on preparations for the next meeting of the India-Ukraine bilateral intergovernmental commission.
He also said Ukraine is interested in developing active partnerships with India across several areas, including science, education, technology, agriculture, IT and pharmaceuticals.
“We also discussed preparations for the next meeting of our bilateral intergovernmental commission in the nearest future. It will involve a strong business component with an emphasis on innovation. Ukraine is interested in developing active partnership with India in science, education, technology, agriculture, IT, pharmaceuticals, and other areas,” he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Russian President on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi and reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy were the way forward in resolving ongoing conflicts.
