ACB Seeks Passport Impounding in Formula E Case
Agency moves court against KTR, three others in alleged ₹55-crore fund transfer case

Hyderabad, 29th Sept: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has approached a special court seeking the impounding of the passports of BRS working president KT Rama Rao and three other accused in the Formula E case.
The agency has sought action against former Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) special chief secretary Arvind Kumar, former Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) chief engineer BLN Reddy and former sports consultant G V L N Kiran Malleswara Rao.
The case relates to alleged irregularities in the transfer of around ₹55 crore in government funds for the Formula E event held in Hyderabad in 2023, during the previous BRS government. The ACB has alleged that the funds were released without mandatory approvals from the state Cabinet, Finance Department and Reserve Bank of India.
The case was registered on December 19, 2024, after the Congress government assumed office. A chargesheet filed in March 2026 named KTR as the prime accused.
Rama Rao last appeared before the Nampally Special ACB Court on September 18. The next hearing is scheduled for October 30. The ACB has accused KTR and other officials of financial and procedural violations.
KTR has denied the allegations and said he would cooperate with the judicial process. After his previous court appearance, he accused the Congress government of targeting Opposition leaders and described the allegations as “malicious propaganda.”
Defending the Formula E event, KTR said it was intended to enhance Hyderabad’s global profile and attract investment in the electric-vehicle sector.
The court is yet to decide on the ACB’s plea seeking passport impounding.
