New Delhi, 10th Aug: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has approached the Delhi Police seeking registration of an FIR over the alleged mockery of Sanatan traditions during a protest in the Parliament complex, accusing several opposition leaders of hurting religious sentiments and violating parliamentary decorum.
According to the complaint, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, MLAs Anil Sharma and Karnail Singh, along with BJP Legal Cell Delhi Convenor Advocate Sanket Gupta, submitted a detailed representation to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi district, on August 1.
The complaint names Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, MP Pappu Yadav, MP Awadhesh Prasad, and other persons allegedly involved in the protest. The BJP leaders have demanded that an FIR be registered and a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation be conducted into the matter.
The complainants have also urged the police to preserve all available CCTV footage, videos and other digital evidence related to the incident to facilitate the investigation.
In the complaint, the BJP leaders alleged that the protest ridiculed Sanatan traditions and deeply hurt the sentiments of millions of devotees. They maintained that disrespect towards Sanatan culture, the saint community and India’s cultural heritage cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
The complaint further stated that while democratic protest is a constitutional right, it must remain within the bounds of parliamentary dignity and respect for the country’s cultural and religious traditions. The BJP leaders called for strict legal action against those found responsible, saying it would deter similar incidents in the future.
No official statement has been issued by the Delhi Police regarding the complaint. The leaders named in the complaint have also not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report. The allegations remain part of the complaint and have not been independently verified.
