New Delhi, 28th Sept: The All India Women Farmers’ Workers Conference will be held in New Delhi on September 30 to highlight the contribution of women in agriculture and strengthen recognition of women farmers as farmers in their own right.
The conference is being organised by the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh in the context of 2026 being declared by the United Nations as the International Year of the Woman Farmer.
The conference will be held on Wednesday, September 30, from 9 am at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium (K. D. Jadhav), New Delhi. Thousands of women farmer workers from different states across the country are expected to participate.
Outstanding Women Farmers to Be Honoured
A key feature of the conference will be the recognition of women farmers who have made outstanding contributions across different areas of agriculture and allied activities.
Selected women farmers from across the country will be honoured in categories including Gau Krishi Vanijyam, organic farming, seed conservation, animal husbandry, employment and food processing.
The organisers said the initiative seeks to highlight both the contribution of women farmers and the challenges they face in agricultural work.
Women’s Role in Agriculture
According to the organisers, women undertake 60 to 80 per cent of agricultural activities in India, including sowing, planting, harvesting, weed control and animal husbandry.
Women have also played an important role for generations in preserving traditional agricultural knowledge, indigenous seeds and biodiversity.
The organisers said women are playing a leading role in giving practical shape to the concept of Gau Krishi Vanijyam, promoting cow-based organic and natural farming and contributing towards chemical-free food production.
Women are also contributing to the economic well-being of rural families through agriculture, dairy production and rural handicrafts, while increasingly participating in agricultural management and decision-making.
Bharatiya Kisan Sangh Network
The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh said it has village-level committees in more than 60,000 villages across the country.
According to the organisation, more than 42 lakh women and men farmer workers are active members, including around 7 lakh women farmer workers.
The organisation’s stated motto is “Krishimit Krishasva – Farming is the Way.”
The September 30 conference is expected to bring together women farmers from different regions to showcase their work, discuss challenges associated with agricultural livelihoods and underline the role of women in India’s farming economy.
